After ten years, the Buddy Rich Memorial Show made a comeback in October of 2008.
Featured performers were Neil Peart, Chad Smith, Terry Bozzio, Efrain Toro, Nick Rich, Tommy Igoe, John Blackwell, Donnie Marple, Peter Erskine, Will Lee and Jeff Berlin.

What’s pretty cool …
What’s pretty cool is seeing how their different styles mesh or don’t mesh w/the rest of the band. Some work (Erskine, Blackwell) beautifully, others (Bozzio, Peart) not so much. But it’s still pretty cool to discern the connections from the non-connections. Erskine’s touch is fantastic on the kit. As much as I adored Peart when I was young, it’s quite visible that this sort of music isn’t really in his blood. Nor is it in Bozzio’s…rock guys are rock guys at heart. Doesn’t mean they suck.

As the bassist with …
As the bassist with most of these guys, it’s funny to hear the opinions (especially the disses) of who’s good and who’s bad, among all these guys (Erskine, Bozzio, Igoe, Nick Rich, Chad, Blackwell, etc., even Peart). True, Buddy would have all of our hides for attempting this music, but all were hand-picked by the best rep he’s got, daughter Cathy Rich, to represent. Having said that, each drummer “brought it” in their own personal way. Vive la difference!! It was a blast……groove on!

Man, it just seems …
Man, it just seems like there is no energy at this concert. Everybody just seems asleep. I know it’s not a rock concert, but the whole performance just seems kinda drained. It’s like everyone is sleep deprived or something.
