One of the most significant and simple lessons he taught me was the concept of emotions vs. intelligence

You see, these two very human traits have an inverse relationship. In other words, when one is high, the other is low, and vice versa.

This is evident in a number of every-day examples that I am certain we all have been through.

Have you ever heard someone on the radio that is willing to do ANYTHING to get a pair of concert tickets? Eat bugs, streak through the park, sing karaoke.

Most of the time, their emotions are extremely high. And needless to say, their intelligence is low. Duh!

Would they normally do those things? Maybe. Who knows with some people?

Another example is the ubiquitous fight with a loved one. When emotions are running high, we tend to say some pretty stupid things.

And we regret it later, when our emotions are low. We realize that at that moment, our intelligence was lower than a snake’s belly.

Anyway, I wanted to share this important but simple concept so you can recognize when this is happening. What you do at that point is your choice.

Our emotions are all important. But we can not take them too seriously. We must also know how to take our emotions seriously….and accomplish the goals, results, and the actions we want.

When we want to make use of our emotions and spirits, we must know they are real. We must accept the goals and commitments that we have. Then we must know what to pay attention to, what to think about, what actions to take, and what to focus on doing and saying.

When Rafael Nadal steps on a tennis court, he keeps his emotions going for him and focus the best he can on making the winning shot out of every shot that he plays – because his only focus is to win the match in progress (and nothing else).

Unlike other tennis players, Nadal does not deliberately display his emotional expressions. He does not show he is upset with umpires or linesmen, or audiences. He knows the top priority for his actions, what to focus on and he does what he can do best – winning.

If you see Tiger Woods in actions, you may dislike his arrogance – because he completely ignores everyone and focus on that “something” in his mind. Tiger always knows what to pay attention to, what to focus on, and what is the priority for the moment. He expects from himself to make great shots all the times. For some people that is too much. For Tiger Woods it is “his way” and he always trains and practices himself to be in that states – the winning states – to achieve great results with outstanding performances.

Anthony Robbins becomes famous, and very successful worldwide, because he always makes best uses of his emotions and intelligence – when he helps people find “the way”. Anthony Robbins have helped millions of people – and he always focus on succeeding – Anthony Robbins always finds the way to get people out of the problems that are threatening people’s lives and happiness – then put them on the right paths with the right emotional states.

We must know how to make great uses of our emotions – not just to ignore, handle, or keep learning how to respond to them.

We must successfully turn our emotions and spirits into the important factors/variables in the equations of our life – where we derive success, happiness, victories, and fulfillment from.

We must successfully MOVE our emotions, feelings, and spirits – desires, passion, and will – from being a pressing or troubling problem to become the success factors and variables in the EQUATIONS of our life, the factors and variables which we can trust and count on to make our life the one we want…..and dream of having.

all of these start with our beliefs…..and the actions which follow.

all of these depend on the actions we take, the results we seek, what we get, the kinds of emotional expressions we display (or refrain from displaying), and how we feel…..on a daily and consistent basis.
