liberals: why do you depend on society when you should depend on yourself?

I’m trying to understand your mindset. If I want to buy something, no matter what it is, I either save for it or work harder for it. In either case, I benefit society by being self-sufficient.

It seems liberals take the position that other, richer people should pay for the things they want. So, if they want better unemployment benefits or healthcare benefits, it should come from society in general. For rich libs, the increase in taxes never impacts their lifestyle. For poor libs, the increase in benefits always outweighs the increase in taxes. What is the reasoning behind this?

Short Answer: I do depend on myself, and I’m willing to let some fellow countrymen depend on me temporarily as well.

Long answer: The flaw in your reasoning is that many liberals are very well off. We want to support social programs because we believe that what happens to our fellow countrymen reflects on us. If another American is suffering from ill health and unable to get medical care, that reflects on the whole country. If another American is being discriminated against, that reflects on the whole country. We believe that the United States of America is so powerful, and so well off, that we can help the underprivileged among us without losing any of our power or most of our wealth. That’s why.

    his family was one if the rich families that lost everything to Castro him and his fam were the "bad guys" the rich that would not share btw they employed alot of people and treated them well then they came to America with literally nothing but one set of clothing then he worked super hard and got a PHD then has had a upper middle class lifestyle all his life and this person is my dad …….

    this is proof that doing well is not about being white or affirmative action but purely of a mindset that the poor do not have

    your thoughts on this mindset that Obama thinks needs to be punished?

    Politicians are just manipulating the masses of citizenry.
    washington has the brightest most Intelligent liberals ever produced by man….in the twilight zone.

    I don’t understand why a person whom is generally well-off in America can support the democratic party’s plans for our economy. How can increased spending via welfare and healthcare help our country? Especially when the upper and higher middle class would have to pay the majority of these costs! What could their mindset possibly be? Why would they vote their wealth and prosperity away to those whom it doesn’t belong to?!

    This question is purely economic (not about abortion, gay marrage, ect.)
    MR. Nice Guy… first of all your not very nice and took the economic question personally. second of all republicans donate far more money to charitable organizations than the left wing counter parts.
    I’m sorry for the poor grammar. If i could correct the question I would. Thanks.

    Possibilities:

    1. They believe in the government as a solution to all social ills.

    2. They are so rich, they feel they can absorb the extra taxation.

    3. They have aggressive tax advice, and will shelter the money so they don’t have to pay for it.

    My guess is a combo of 1 and 3.

    Silly Mindset?

    How can I get my mother out of her silly mindset? She worships celebrities and talks about them so much. She believes all attractive people are nice and all rich people were nice before that’s why God blessed them with money? She believes all celebs were nice that’s why God blessed them with success. In addition, she believes everything is a conspiracy. She believed Martha Stewart did not deserve to go to jail and court system only jailed her out of jealousy. She believes jealousy is the underlining factor for everything.

    Your mother is grown and probably will NOT change. You just need to accept her, silly quirks and all.

    At least you can see the difference. That is all that matters really.

    I wouldn’t say she needs professional help. These are just ways shes rationalizes how some people are blessed and some are not. It makes sense to me actually. Why are some children abused and starved, while others are pampered and spoiled? These are things your mom can answer in one sentence. They were good/bad and God blessed/punished them. Case closed in her mind.

    And honestly, that is a lot easier on the mind and heart than delving into the reality of the unfair world.

    Just smile and nod and say "Yep mom, you’re probably right."

    and why didn’t you finish it? Rubbish or just not what you were expecting from it?

    Mine was Israel is Real by Rich Cohen.
    Was expecting a history of Israel of some sort but failed to see how this book had any relevency to the mindset of todays average israeli citizen. It became obsessed with the ‘idea’ rather the ground truth so was not for me. I think i got through maybe 1/4 way through it when i could see where the rest of the book was going and gave up on it.

    The Man Who Was Thursday by G. K. Chesterton
    It was a little above my level, and I couldn’t get through it knowing there was all kinds of underlying theology and philosophy and psychology that completely evaded me. I only read a chapter and a half, and it’s not that long of a book.

    Why is the majority of blacks democrats?

    The last several days I have been reading my history book and it was saying that many blacks were republicans but then the kkk threatened them to vote democrat or they will be killed or tormented. But I also heard that blacks are just ignorant and dont want to research about all the parties and figure out what each of them are about. I also heard that blacks have a mindset that republicans are for the rich and democrats are for the poor. What is the truth?

    The truth is…Republicans stand for liberty and less Government control of our lives…they are pro business because businesses is what drive a capitalist economy. They believe if people invest and businesses flourish then more jobs are created and more opportunities are available for everybody. Wealth and prosperity is what drives our economy…simple as that.
    Do some people get really rich?…of course…that is the objective. Rich people are the ones who create jobs and donate to scholarships and support athletic teams and drive the economy. Why punish them?
    What good could possibly come from that?
